Phytogenics are organic solutions that are derived from plants to improve performance. The potential benefits of using phytogenics in livestock nutrition are increased feed intake, stimulation of digestion, increased growth performance, improved reproductive parameters, improved feed efficiency, reduced incidence of diarrhea and increased performance parameters. Phytogenic is sometimes referred to as phytobiotics or botanicals. There are natural growth promoters (NGPs) such as feeds, spices, and essential oils. Within the team’s experiment we utilized essential oils. Essential oils are aromatic liquids that are derived from plant materials such as flowers, leaves, fruits, and roots; and oleoresins, which are extracts derived by non-aqueous solvents from plant material. Essential oils contain the monoterpenes carvacrol and thymol which are high efficiency in vitro against several pathogens that are found in the intestinal tract.
