CARLA EBMEYER
Carla Ebmeyer is our Biotechnology teacher at the Bridgeport Regional Aquaculture Science and Technology Center. With a background in the clinical laboratory, Ms. Ebmeyer centers the class around laboratory methods used in biochemistry and molecular biology, as well as the Open Science Challenge project. Ms. Ebmeyer has an degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, a BS in Biology/Chemistry with a focus in Microbiology, a Masters in Education and a Sixth year in Science Education. Ms. Ebmeyer is also a medical technologist, working in hematology for 10 years before before becoming a teacher. She has trained our class in microbiology techniques so that we were able to test our ingredients with live bacterial cultures and chose only the compounds that showed antimicrobial properties. Her passion for microbiology and molecular biology makes her valuable to our project and her laboratory "know how" has given us the ability to work independently in the microbiology lab. She is always interested learning new things and is excited about Expofest.
